The Jazz Singing Class was established in 2007 in Harpenden, Hertfordshire, when experienced vocalist and tutor Donna Canale moved to the area from London and noticed that there were no classes which provided the opportunity to explore jazz singing.
Donna decided to set up a new class to help add musical diversity to the local community and now, 8 years on, the classes are still going strong with a growing number of students who continue to benefit from everything the course brings to the town.
The course term is split into two halves: the first five weeks focus on introducing a new song each week, which the whole class learns together and then each student practices singing solo.
The following four weeks focus on selecting and practising each individual students’ choice of song in preparation for the final end-of-term class ‘gig’ with live jazz trio. Throughout the weeks, you will also work on a couple of group/ensemble songs adding a jazz choir twist to the last evening’s proceedings.
